The Champs de Mars, with the Eiffel Tower in the background, witnessed the opening action of the sixth leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour (GCT) - and early home success.

French riders Edward Levy and Simon Delestre topped round one of the individual classification of the Global Champions League.

Levy, riding Uno de Cerisy, clocked 69.61sec, with Delestre stopping the clock at 69.75 and third place going to Germany’s Christian Ahlmann, who recorded 70.00.

Britain’s Ben Maher, who will be hoping to improve upon his fourth-place position in the GCT tomorrow in the absence of the two leaders, Sweden’s Peder Fredricson and Britain’s Scott Brash, for this leg, was 24th, recording four faults in 72.35 riding Ginger-Blue.

Maher is on 92.00 points in the GCT standings, four ahead of Dutch rider Bart Bles, who finished 17th tonight on Comme-Laude W.

Fredricson tops the current individual standings on 149.00 points after impressing in the first five rounds of the 16-event season, which is due to culminate with the Prague Playoffs in November.

This included a strong display last week at his home event in Stockholm.

Brash is second overall on 108.00 points and has also opted to sit out the event in the French capital.
