Russia’s Anton Demchenko won the European Individual Chess Championship despite drawing his final match in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Demchenko halved his final match on the top board with Bogdan-Daniel Deac of Romania to finish with a final score of 8.5 points.

Vincent Keymer of Germany finished on the same points total after beating Daniele Vocaturo of Italy, however Demchenko took the title courtesy of having a better tiebreak record throughout the tournament.

Alexey Sarana of Russia, who halved his match today with Rauf Mamedov of Azerbaijan, and Deac finished in third and fourth places respectively, both on eight points.

Poland’s Piorun Kacper, who today halved his match with Hungary’s Viktor Erdos finished fifth overall with 7.5 points, one of 14 players to finish on that total.
