Portugal will face defending champions Argentina in the final of the FIFA Futsal World Cup after beating Kazakhstan on penalties in Lithuania.

A 4-3 win in the shootout after the semi-final had ended all-square at 2-2 after extra time sent Portugal through to the tournament's showpiece encounter at Kaunas Arena.

Tiago Brito scored the decisive spot-kick as Portugal, who finished fourth at the last edition of the competition in 2016, booked their place in their first Futsal World Cup final.

Following a goalless first half, the match sprung into life in the second period as Pany Varela gave Portugal the lead after 23 minutes.

Kazakhstan, also seeking their maiden title, sent the contest into extra time thanks to Dauren Nurgozhin.

Douglas turned the match on its head by putting Kazakhstan in front early in the additional period.

Portugal went in search of an equaliser and found it courtesy of Bruno, whose goal left penalties as the only way to separate the two teams.

Argentina yesterday beat Brazil 2-1, courtesy of goals from Cristian Borruto and Alamiro Vaporaki.

The final and third-place playoff are scheduled for Sunday (October 3).
