Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Tobi Amusan and Yulimar Rojas are three of five finalists for this year's World Athletics Female Athlete of the Year honour.

The three world-record holders are joined on the list by Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and double world race walking champion Kimberly Garcia from Peru.

American McLaughlin-Levrone - who claimed two Olympic gold medals last year - repeated the 400 metres hurdles and 4x400m relay double at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene in 2022.

In her specialist event, McLaughlin-Levrone broke the world record again, becoming the first woman to go under 51 seconds with a time of 50.68sec.

Rojas broke the women’s triple jump world record at Tokyo 2020 on her way to the Olympic title, and backed that up this year with a world double, winning the indoor and outdoor gold medals, as well as the Diamond League crown.

Notably, the Venezuelan has been competing in long jump this season too.

Fraser-Pryce has proven to be an evergreen athlete, a year after what was supposed to be her retirement .

Fraser-Pryce looked set to hang her spikes up after Tokyo 2020, but continued on after claiming silver in the 200m at the Games as well as the 4x100m relay gold.

After setting new personal bests in 2021, Fraser-Pryce continued her fine form into 2022, claiming the 100m world title at the age of 35, her fifth crown in the event.

She added silver medals in the 200m and 4x100m relay too.

Amusan has won every major event she has been in this season, with her most impressive run coming at the World Championships where she set a new world record in the 100m semi-finals of 12.12, before winning the final.

Her achievements did not stop there as Amusan won the 100m hurdles and 4x100m relay titles at the African Championships and Commonwealth Games too - all in Nigeria's colours

A breakout season capped off by winning the Diamond League crown for the second year in a row.

Finally, Garcia showed real endurance at the World Championships, managing to win both the 20 kilometres and 35km race walk gold medals.

In the shorter event, she set a new national record, and later in the World Championships broke the area record for South America over 35km.

The World Athletics Female Athlete of the Year will be announced on December 5.
