Registration for athletes has opened for the 11th edition of the Gay Games set to be co-hosted for the first time in the history of the event.

Delegations will benefit from an early bird price reduction if they register by today, with the number of participants limited in several sports.

Figure skating and dodgeball have also been added to the sporting programme.

The five-kilometre and 10km running races have also been moved to two different days with the aim of allowing athletes to be able to register and compete in both distances.

The basic registration fee includes tickets to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, transport pass, a participation medal, a welcome bag, and access to the accreditation centre and the Gay Games village.

The 2023 Gay Games are set to be split between Hong Kong and the Mexican city of Guadalajara, and are due to be held from November 3 to 11 next year.

Guadalajara stepped in as co-hosts due to uncertainties in Hong Kong due to COVID-19 restrictions, which had already postponed the event, initially scheduled to take place last month.

Twenty sports are due to be on offer in Hong Kong, which was originally the sole host of the Games, and 19 in Guadalajara.

Athletics, badminton, football, swimming and tennis are due to be held in both cities.

The host for the 2026 edition has already been decided with Spanish city Valencia due to stage the event.
