Hungary dominated Serbia 12-7 to win gold at the 2023 World Aquatics Men's U20 Water Polo Championships in Bucharest.

The win was Hungary's 11th medal in the event and helped them level on three titles with Greece, Italy, Serbia and Spain.

Vince Vigvari had two penalty goals while goalkeeper Brendon Gyapjas starred with nine saves for the Hungarians.

Hungary broke the deadlock and went up 3-1 before Serbia levelled in the first break.

But the Serbs were not able to find the net for 17 minutes after Luka Gladovic’s goal midway through the second quarter.

That moment was crucial as Hungary stretched the lead to 8-4 at final break.

With two minutes remaining, the score read 11-4.

While a double from Viktor Urosevic and another by Bogdan Brescanski helped the Serbs finish strong, it was too little, too late.

After wining the group stage fixture, the United States repeated the feat against Greece, with a 11-6 win over the Europeans to bag the bronze medal.

Two 17-year-olds - Ben Leichty and Ryder Dodd - were the American heroes in the final with the former aging the player of the math award thanks to his left-handers.

Dodd, meanwhile, managed two in the bronze medal match to finish with 22 goals.

After going 2-0 up, the Americans finished the first quarter break with a 4-1 lead.

The second quarter was tighter with USA managing 2-1 before Greece won the third quarter by the same scoreline.

However, Grant Watson sealed the final place of the podium for US with a shot from deep left to take a 4-2 win in the last quarter.

Spain finished fifth after defeating Italy 10-8.
