The Games are predominantly taking place in the Salvadoran capital but modern pentathlon is being held at the Centro Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte in the Dominican Republic.

Relay world champion from 2019 Oliver amassed 1,391 points in total, while compatriots Mariana Arceo and Catherine Mayran Oliver joined her on the podium with 1,365 and 1,357 points, respectively.

Oliver began her quest for the gold medal with a fifth-place finish in the riding element.

The Cali 2018 double gold medallist clocked in after 1min 5.10sec before 22 victories and six defeats put her second in the fencing discipline with 266 points.

She then produced a lacklustre swimming performance over 200 metres with a time of 2:28.39 that translated to eighth place.

It set up a laser run where it was all to play for following Arceo's swimming triumph.

Oliver finished four seconds before her team-mate in the laser run, in 11:55.10, for first place in the discipline and overall.

The men's individual final is set to take place tomorrow before relay events are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday (June 27 and 28).

The first medals were also awarded in the shooting events at the Polígono Estadio Mágico in San Salvador.

Mexico triumphed again, winning gold in the women's 10m air pistol team as Andrea Ibarra, Alejandra Zavala, and Alejandra Cervantes combined for 1,704 points. 

They got the better of Puerto Rico's Jennifer Valentin, Laura Acosta, and Abigail Granell on 1,681 who in turn pipped neutral team Stefany Figueroa, Kimberly Linares, and Lucía Menéndez to silver by three points.

Ibarra triumphed again in the women's 10m individual air pistol with 236.2 points over her team-mates Zavala and Cervantes in second and third, respectively.

Puerto Rico's Yarimar Mercado posted a score of 450.2 in the women's 50m rifle three positions and was joined on the podium by Cuba Dianelys Pérez and neutral Polymaría Alvarado.

Mexico missed out on another gold medal, this time in the women's 50m rifle three positions team final, as Lisbet Hernandez, Pérez, and Adianez Martinez of Cuba triumphed.

Guatemalans Alvarado, Jazmine Matta, and Lucía Menendez won the bronze medal, competing under a neutral flag due to their National Olympic Committee's suspension.
