Jersey's Hannah Silcock and Gotland's Max Hedbom won the first table tennis singles golds at the Island Games in Guernsey.

Second seed Silcock beat Åland's Marina Donner 11-6, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 11-3 in a women's singles final between the top two ranked players at the Guernsey Table Tennis Centre.

Silcock had overcome fourth seed Katherine Vinas of the Isle of Man 11-3, 11-8, 11-5, 11-4 in the semi-finals, while Donner saw off third seed Alice Edwards of Guernsey 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7.

The beaten semi-finalists both earned bronze medals.

In the men's singles final, Hedbom staved off a comeback from Jersey's Jordan Wykes to take gold 11-7, 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 9-11, 11-5.

Jersey also had a bronze medal through Luc Miller who lost to Hedbom in straight games in the last four, and second seed Ivik Nielsen of Greenland had to settle for joint-third after losing in four games to Wykes.

The individual cycling road races produced dramatic finishes.

Jamie-Lee Wright led a one-two for hosts Guernsey in the women's event as she crossed the finish line in 2 hours 0min 45sec, beating team-mate Hannah Brehaut by one second and Jersey's Flo Thomas by two seconds.

Sam Culverwell provided an individual double for the hosts, triumphing in the men's race in 2:38:38 to hold off challenges from Karl Patrick Lauk of Saaremaa and Roberto Ledesma Estevez of Menorca.

Guernsey took the women's team gold, but had to settle for silver behind Saaremaa in the men's team standings.

In today's athletics at Footes Lane, Rachael Franklin of the Isle of Man followed up her women's 1500 metres Games record with the same feat in the 5,000m.

She clocked 16:05.80 to beat Marina Bagur Olives of Menorca in second by more than half-a-minute.

Ynys Môn's Osian Perrin was also dominant in the men's 5,000m final, and set a Games record of 14:11.85.

Gozo's David Borg was second in 14:59.41.

There was also a swimming Games record at the Beau Sejour Leisure Centre, with the Cayman Islands' Kyra Rabess clocking 4:15.78 for women's 400m freestyle gold.

Guernsey continue to lead the medals table with two days remaining at the Island Games with 33 golds, followed by Jersey with 26.

The Faroe Islands are third on 13, with the Isle of Man behind them by virtue of having fewer silver medals.
