Brazil’s Hugo Calderano made it three men’s singles titles in a row and four overall at the Pan American Table Tennis Championships in Havana.

Calderano overcame Chile’s Nicolas Burgos 4-1 in the final in the Cuban capital to add to his victories in 2017, 2021 and 2022.

Amy Wang of the United States stunned defending champion Adriana Diaz 4-3 before defeating Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi by the same scoreline to seal the women’s singles crown for the title time.

She became the second American woman to clinch the singles title after Lily Zhang in 2019.


Gustavo Gomez and Burgos delivered men’s doubles gold for Chile with a 3-0 win over Gaston Alto and Haracio Cifuentes of Argentina.

There was also delight for Chile in the mixed doubles with Burgos and Paulina Vega beating Brazil’s Takahashi and Vitor Ishiy 3-0.

Adriana Diaz and Melanie Diaz of Puerto Rico overcame Canada’s Mo Zhang and Ivy Liao 3-1 to win women’s doubles gold.
