Ferriani spoke at the Closing Ceremony in the capital city's King Saud University Arena which brought an end to the 11-day event.

"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has, with this event, clearly demonstrated that they have everything in place to host any major event at the highest level," Ferriani said.

"This includes the appropriate infrastructure and venues, and especially the required professionalism, hospitality, and readiness - not to mention tremendous ambition and a great passion for sport.

"Without a shadow of a doubt this edition has been the best we have seen so far."

The Games were officially declared closed by vice-president of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz.

He spoke of his pride for the more than 1,500 athletes that competed in Riyadh.

The Closing Ceremony featured a light show that illuminated the sky and included jugglers, light painters, and an "LED battle show" that featured the 16 World Combat Games sports.

In total, 954 medals were won at Riyadh 2023 with Ukraine topping the medal standings as they claimed 21 golds.

The sporting highlight on the final day came courtesy of South Korea in the taekwondo events as they struck gold in the mixed gender team kyorugi event and women's individual freestyle poomsae.

The kyorugi final saw a fierce battle take place against Morocco, with the South Koreans coming out as 75-53 winners.

Turkey made up the podium as they beat Mexico 83-45 in the third-place match for bronze.

A score of 9.28 saw Cha Ya-eun of South Korea claim gold in the women's individual freestyle poomsae final while Guatemalan Maria Alejandra Higueros Luna and Hsin-Ya Chen of Chinese Taipei followed behind with respective scores of 9.04 and 8.80.

Organisers have stated that the host city of the next World Combat Games in 2025 are expected to be announced early next year.
