EWF sets up a temporary Athletes' Commission

The European Weightlifting Federation has announced the formation of the EWF Temporary Athletes Commission under the new EWF Constitution. The working group, consisting of Mr. Caruana Jesmond (Chairman), Mr. Shai Oren (Legal Adviser), Mr. Osei Forrester (IWF AC Chairman), Dr Mihajlovic Milan (EWF General Secretary), Kt. Conflitti Antonio (EWF President), successfully established a procedure for EWF member federations to nominate athletes for this Commission and to present the proposal to the EWF EB and the EWF Congress.

The EWF has received a total of seven applications. Each candidate underwent a rigorous screening process in accordance with the strict standards set out in the EWF Constitution, in particular the absence of any doping offences during their sporting careers. All candidates met this standard. One candidate had a formal non-conformity; therefore, the application was rejected and was not included in the further steps of the process.

After careful consideration, the Working Group unanimously proposed the following athletes to the EWF Temporary Athletes Commission, which was accepted by the EWF Executive Board on 22 January 2024: Anaïs Michel - Cozzela (France), Jenny Tong (Great Britain), Despina Polaktsidou (Greece), Sean Kevin Brown (Republic of Ireland), David Litvinov (Israel), Arturs Plesnieks (Latvia).

The procedure will be concluded with the confirmation during the next session of the EWF Congress in Sofia (BUL), on 17 February 2024. In the following procedure, the members of the EWF Temporary Athletes' Commission will elect a member of the AC to represent the athletes' interests in the EWF EB, with whom they will work together for the development of weightlifting in Europe.
