Morocco wins three licences for Paris 2024 Paralympics through African qualifiers © DR

The first qualifying tournament of the year has started in Dakar, Senegal. On 9 February, the Para-Taekwondo qualifying tournament took place.

Only the winner would get an Olympic licence. In the men's tournament, two licences went to Moroccan athletes. Ayoub Adouich won the tournament in the 63 kg category, while Rachid Ismaili was the best in the 80 kg category. The other three who qualified were Ide Oumarou Djabirou of Niger (58 kg), Abdel Rahman Mahmoud of Egypt (70 kg) and Idrissa Keita (+80 kg). 

In the women's tournament two Kenyan athletes, Neema Stency Obonyo and Julietta Lemuge Moipo, got licences as the only one registered athletes in their weight categories. Cameroon also received two licences. Guileine Chemonge (47kg) and Marie Antoinette Dassi (65kg) won their finals against Moroccan athletes. Morocco received only one licence in the women's competition, when Rajae Akermach won her bout in the +65 kg category.
