The 2024 SAMBO World Championships took place from 4-5 April. For Combat SAMBO it was also a ranking event for the 2025 World Games. Azerbaijan and Turkey missed out for political reasons, but their athletes will still be able to earn ranking points at the 2024 World Championships in Astana, the 2024 European Championships in Belgrade and the 2024 World Cup in Cholpon-Ata.

During the opening ceremony, Armenian SAMBO Federation (ASF) President Mikayel Hayrapetyan thanked the entire SAMBO family for helping Armenia to host the major SAMBO events in recent years. "Our sport has a principle: SAMBO is a family, family is a power, power is a piece. The FIAS and all the representatives are full of love. In 2022 we hosted the SAMBO Youth World Championships and for the first time 55 medal sets were played. It was a huge challenge and we did it with the help of the SAMBO family.

"During the 2023 World Championships, FIAS President Vasily Shestakov and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan decided that Armenia will have a high-level international tournament that will be held annually," said Hayrapetyan.

The Ukrainian national team were present in Yerevan with a full squad, while Russia, Belarus and France competed under the FIAS flag. "Many countries are competing here under the FIAS flag. I want them to have the opportunity to represent their own country in the future. There is a refugee team and I wish that every athlete from the refugee team could raise the flag of their own country. Sport is a game, sport is love, sport is family," Hayrapetyan concluded.

"Yerevan is hosting more and more important tournaments in the FIAS calendar. The 2023 SAMBO World Championships became a bright sports festival for all fans of this sport, and the same will happen with this tournament," said FIAS Secretary General Roberto Ferraris.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Karen Giloyan, announced the opening of the tournament. "Armenia is claiming its own place in the world of sports. Four major SAMBO events have been held in Armenia recently. The Government of Armenia supports SAMBO in the country and all the winners of the World Championship will receive valuable gifts from the Prime Minister of Armenia," said Giloyan.

After the opening ceremony, the stage was set for the athletes. 26 medal sets were played in Yerevan, and the FIAS 1 team (individual neutral athletes from Russia) won 17 gold medals. Ukraine came second in the overall standings with 7 gold medals. The host nation won 14 medals, but none of them were gold. The next World Cup will be held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.
