February 12 - Russian weightlifter Oleg Perepetchenov, who won a medal bronze at the Athens Olympics in 2004, has been disqualified for doping after tests of his stored sample found a prohibited substance, it was announced here today.

January 8 - Sydney 2000 weightlifting gold medallist Galabin Boevski, given an eight year doping ban in 2004 and who is currently serving a nine year prison sentence for international drug trafficking, could be the new Brazilian weightlifting coach ahead of Rio 2016, it has emerged.

July 16 - Lithuanian weightlifter Aurimas Didžbalis has become the sport's latest athlete to fail a doping test ahead of the London 2012 Olympics with the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) revealing that there have already been 22 positive cases in 2012.
January 1 - Turkey's weightlifting federation has announced that Nurcan Taylan has failed a drug's test and will likely miss the London 2012 Olympic Games.
December 11 - The weightlifting test event at the ExCeL Arena has been hailed as a big success by the London 2012 Head of Sport Competition David Luckes following the two day competition.
September 12 - The United States Olympic team trials for weightlifting as well as the 2012 National Weightlifting Championships will be held as part of the Arnold Sports Festival which will take place from March 2 until 4 next year in Columbus, Ohio, it has been announced.
July 8 - Walter Holland, the former top weightlifting official who devoted decades of his life to helping run the sport across the world as well as in Britain, has died in Oxford, at the age of 93.
Canadian show jumper Ian Millar holds the record for the most Olympic appearances by an athlete in any sport. When he competed at London 2012 at the age of 65 it was the tenth time he had competed in the Games since making his debut 30 years earlier at Munich 1972. He had won his only Olympic medal at Beijing 2008 when he was part of Canada’s team that took silver in the team jumping event. Millar won a gold medal in the Pan American Games team jumping event at Toronto 2015. He announced his retirement in 2019.
