Women's defending champions Japan fell to a humbling defeat against China on day three of the International Blind Sports Federation Goalball Asia-Pacific Championships in Chiba.

The hosts had won both of their opening matches on day one before yesterday's rest day.

They came unstuck against a well-drilled Chinese side at Chiba Port Arena.

After a goalless first half, China stole the initiative through Wang Chunhua, before Zhang Xiling secured a 2-0 victory.

It represents a third consecutive victory for China in Pool X.

Elsewhere, Thailand cruised to an 11-1 victory against Indonesia, who had earlier lost 10-2 against South Korea.

There was also a 6-1 win for Australia against Thailand.

In the men's draw, defending champions China continued to impress, defeating Iran 9-5 as they maintained their winning start in Chiba.

Japan won 11-4 against Thailand, as Iran comfortably defeated Indonesia 14-4.

South Korea secured just their second victory with a 10-0 win against Australia.

The champions of both the men's and women's events will qualify for next year's Paralympic Games in Tokyo, providing they have not already booked their place.

If that happens, the next best-ranked side will advance to Tokyo 2020.
