The President of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) has sent his condolences to the victims of Typhoon Molave, which has led to more than 130 deaths across the Philippines and Vietnam.

Anas Al Otaiba, who is also vice-president of the International Boxing Association, said the whole of the ASBC management team sends their "sincerest condolences" to the victims of the typhoon.

The impact of the tropical storm led to a halt in proceedings at the Vietnam Youth & Junior & Schoolboys National Boxing Championships which were taking place in Quang Ngai Province.

The Vietnam Boxing Federation said that the boxing family was safe and reported that the situation was "under control" in the competition venue.

In total, 290 contests had been completed before the event was stopped.

The event is set to be completed at a later date.

Typhoon Molave has resulted in torrential rain, widespread flooding and landslides, and sadly led to the loss of life in the Central Region of Vietnam.

More than 1.3 million people were evacuated as the storm ripped through the area causing damage to thousands of homes.

More than 130 people are reported to have died in Vietnam.

In the Philippines 22 people have reportedly died, mostly through drowning in provinces south of the capital Manila, as reported by Reuters.

The Vietnamese Government reported that the impact of Typhoon Molave caused an estimate VND 10 trillion ($430 million/£334 million/$371 million) damage when it struck the country, as reported by Bloomberg.
