Italy will face Serbia in the final of the International Volleyball Federation Women’s Under-20 World Championship after both sides won their last four encounters in Rotterdam.

Co-hosts The Netherlands were defeated in the day’s second semi-final as Serbia ran out 25-21, 17-25, 25-23, 28-26 winners.

Serbia will face Italy in the showpiece match tomorrow, with the Italians booking their place in the final by beating Russia in a close straight sets encounter 25-22, 29-27, 25-23.

Elsewhere today, the first round of playoff games took place, to determine the final matches tomorrow to decide places three through to 16.

The United States defeated the Dominican Republic 25-22, 25-15, 25-18 and will face Poland for fifth place, after Poland beat Brazil 25-15, 26-24, 25-15.

Brazil and Dominican Republic are set to contest seventh tomorrow.

Turkey came from behind to defeat Egypt 24-26, 25-15, 25-15, 25-20 and will face Belarus for ninth place, after Belarus overcame Argentina 25-15, 25-17, 25-15.

Egypt and Argentina are set to contest 11th place tomorrow.

Thailand earned a walkover win over Puerto Rico, and will face Belgium for 13th place after they overcame Rwanda 25-14, 25-13, 25-13.

Rwanda will earn 15th with Puerto Rico withdrawing before the tournament started after several of their players tested positive for coronavirus.
