The Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP) President Renzo Vitto Fabrizio Manyar Velazco acknowledged that the Peruvian Canoeing Federation (PCF) would be recognised as the representative for rafting in the country, taking the sport under its wing.

PCF President Jorge Tàvara Mariàtegui certified the full membership with WRF, which is different to the International Rafting Federation, who were granted observer status by the Global Association of International Sports Federations in 2019. 

"I am honoured to welcome this beautiful country in our community and I look forward to develop positive synergies with this amazing rafting reality," said WRF President Danilo Barmaz.

Peru's geography makes it an ideal location for rafting, being part of the drainage basin of the Amazon River, as well as boasting the likes of the Rio Chili and Rio Urubamba which flow from the Andes Mountains towards the Pacific Ocean.

There are now 42 members of the WRF, with Peru being the seventh from the Americas after Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico and Venezuela.
