South Korea will take on the Czech Republic as Moose Jaw, Canada, is getting ready to host the World Para Ice Hockey Championships tomorrow.

It is the first time a World Para Ice Hockey sanctioned event is being held in Canada and the first major tournament in the sport to be played in the country since Vancouver 2010 Paralympics.

Scheduled to conclude on June 4, a total of eight teams will be competing for the world title.

After the first game, Paralympic bronze medallists China will take on Italy in another Pool A game before Norway face Germany for the last game of the day.

Hosts Canada are in Pool A along with the Czech Republic, South Korea and the defending Paralympic and world champions United States.

China, Germany, Italy and Norway are in Pool B, with the hosts set to make their debut against the United States on Monday (May 29).

The United States will be seeking their sixth world title while Canada will eye its fifth gold medal in the tournament.

Canada last won world gold in 2017 and finished runners-up in the last edition.

"It has been so long since our family, friends and people in Canada have been able to watch our sport live, and I think that's the best way to see it," said Canadian captain Tyler McGregor.

"As Para athletes that makes you feel so valued, and we're honoured that we get to play our sport in front of our home fans."

Matches will be held at the Moose Jaw Events Centre that has hosted many curling and wheelchair curling events.
