Denmark's Anne-Marie Rindom is set to defend her women's International Laser Class Association (ILCA) Laser Radial World Championships title in Melbourne in Australia.

She regained her status as world champion after winning last year in Sakaiminato in Japan, having previously won in 2015 too.

Beginning tomorrow, the event will take place over six days, with two races a day, concluding on February 28.

After the initial six races where sailors are separated into sections, the top athletes will race in the gold fleet, with silver and bronze fleets for those further down the field.

In 2018, the Danish sailor could only finish 21st, with it being the only time in her past five Championships where she has not made the podium.

However, she is not the only consistent sailor in with a chance of winning this year's title - The Netherlands' Marit Bouwmeester is a three-times world champion and has finished second on four occasions, including last year behind Rindom.

The Olympic champion, Britain's Alison Young, will be searching for her second world title too, having finished with a bronze last year and a gold in 2016, while the hosts will hope one of their 19 competitors can bring in a medal home too.

The last person to defend their title in the event was Finland's Sari Multala who won a second gold in 2010 at Largs in Britain.
